Local candidates clinch Morgan County, statewide races

Voters turned out across Alabama yesterday for the statewide primary election. The election will pave the way to the statewide general election that will be held November 6. According to Alabama Votes, the Morgan County voter turnout was 27.75 percent.

  • Dwight Morgan won the race for State Republican Executive Committee Morgan County Place 4 with 56.48 percent of the votes.
  • Brenda Gray and Deborah W. Byrd won races on the Morgan County Democratic Executive Committee with 28.48 and 25.94 percent respectively.
  • Jeff Clark won the race for Morgan County Commission District One with 68.10 percent.
  • Randy Vest won the race for Morgan County Commission District Two with 80.04 percent.
  • Ron Puckett won the Morgan County Sheriff race with 65.30 percent.
  • Bill Hopkins won the race for Superintendent, Morgan County Board of Education with 57.38 percent.
  • Parker Duncan Moore won the race for State Representative, District Four with 68.40 percent; Billy Jackson won the race for State Representative, District Eight with 85.56 percent; Scott Stadthagen won the race for State Representative, District Nine with 66.87 percent.
  • Charles Elliot won the race for Circuit Judge, Place Two with 65.93 percent.

Gov. Kay Ivey soundly defeated her opponents Huntsville mayor Tommy Battles, Scott Dawson, Bill Hightower and Michael McAllister eliminating a need for a runoff. Gov. Ivey will face her Democratic opponent in November.
