Funeral for Richard Lamar Gerstman, 65, was Fri., June 30, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Austinville Church of Christ with Mark Posey officiating with family and close friends to speak and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Burningtree Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Gerstman died on Sun., June 25, 2017 at UAB’s Palliative Care Unit. He was born Jan. 24, 1952, in Morgan County to Oscar William Gerstman, Jr. and Mary Jane Engle Gerstman. He was an Elder and Deacon at Austinville Church of Christ and was a dedicated Christian who spent much time reading his Bible, teaching, singing and listening to gospel music. He was a 1970 graduate of PHS as Valedictorian. He loved gardening, camping, genealogy and traveling and was a master of fixing things. He loved his family and loved being a “Pepaw” for his grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers: make memorials to the UAB Palliative and Comfort Care Unit@ UAB and/or the Leukemia Research Foundation.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon L. Gerstman of Decatur; two sons, Jason L. Gerstman (Stephanie) of Athens and Jon Gerstman (Jennifer) of Hartselle; a daughter, Sharla Gerstman Stewart (Wesley) of Hartselle; two brothers, William Gerstman of Hartselle and Ralph Gerstman of Priceville; five grandchildren, Kaeli Gerstman, Kristen Gerstman, Kaden Gerstman, Parker Stewart and Jackson Gerstman and and his dear nephew, Glenn Gerstman.

Pallbearers were former and current elders and deacons of Austinville Church of Christ.
