The Hartselle Tigers opened their last week of regular season play with a game against the Lawrence County Lady Red Devils.
Hartselle took the lead in the first thanks to an RBI single from Mackenzie Jackson that drove in Kenzi Parker to make the game 1-0. Lawrence County managed to tie the game with an RBI single in the second and then the Red Devils took the lead 2-1 off a solo home run in the third inning.
Hartselle tied the game back in the fifth inning. Gracie Poe reached base with a single. Kylie Winton then entered the game as a courtesy runner. Winton later tied the game 2-2 thanks to an error by the Red Devils.
Hartselle’s Poe delivered a clutch performance in the top of the sixth as she faced runners on second and third with no outs. Poe was able to deliver three straight outs to get out of the inning with no damage done.
Hartselle went up for good in the sixth when Taylor Spangler hit a ground ball and reached on an error, which allowed Kaitlyn Spangler, who had just hit a double, to score and give the Tigers the 3-2 lead.
The Tigers held on to that lead to win the game 3-2. Gracie Poe got the win for Hartselle. Poe allowed seven hits and two runs with four strikeouts in seven innings pitched. Mackenzie Jackson and Kaitlyn Spangler both tallied two hits for the Tigers during the game. Jackson had the only RBI of the game. Hartselle head coach Christy Ferguson was proud that her team was able to finish at the end. “I thought Gracie pitched well. This was big for our team.” Ferguson said. “We have battled these two run games for the last two or three weeks and we really needed a win today.”
