James Rufus “J.R.” Burgess

Funeral for James Rufus “J.R.” Burgess, 98, of Decatur will be Sat., Feb. 6, at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Charles Foreman and James Watts officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in Andrews Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be Fri., Feb. 5, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Burgess died Thur., Feb. 4, 2016, at Decatur Morgan Hospital. He was born July 18, 1917, in Morgan County to William Luther Burgess and Martie (Kyker) Burgess. He was a farmer and was preceded in death by a son, Leon Burgess; and his parents.

He is survived by three sons, James Burgess, Jackie Burgess and Phil Burgess; a daughter, Dean Martin of Hartselle; two sisters, Ozell Davis and Willie Mae Maze; 16 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Todd Burgess, Byron Faulkner, Jeff Faulkner, Tyler Nix, Pam Nix, Justin Burgess and Kaitlin Faulkner.
