During the last monthly meeting of the Hartselle City Council the members agreed to interview all applicants for the upcoming vacancy on the city council. On December 1, 2015, Mayor Pro Tempore Bill Smelser will become Mayor Bill Smelser. He will take the official position as mayor when Mayor Don Hall’s resignation becomes effective November 30. Hall has already relinquished any power as mayor but remains officially mayor until the date he requested of November 30.

Once Smelser moves from Mayor Pro Tempore to Mayor his seat on the council will need to be filled.

As of press time 15 Hartselle citizens had applied for the council seat vacancy. The interviews will be held on Mon., Nov. 9, beginning at 5 p. m and should last approximately 10 minutes per applicant.

In other city matters, the council:

• Approved vacating a utility easement located in Ridgemont Subdivision on Avalon Drive

• Approved the fourth quarter safety winners: Sherry Reagin, Ryan Kaser, Billy Evans, Lucas Hogan and Ronnie Farrow.

• Approved an amendment to the Personnel Policy

• Approved additional preliminary engineering costs to the Thompson Rd. improvements, with the city incurring an additional cost of $21,146.
