Priceville Falls in OT

Priceville traveled to DAR for a regional matchup Friday night.  The #5 ranked Bulldogs were playing to extend their undefeated season, while the DAR Patriots had a higher playoff spot in mind. DAR would prevail in overtime with a final score DAR 49 and Priceville 47.

The Patriots would take the opening possession and drive deep into Priceville territory, only to be stopped by an interception by Brandon Dinh.

Priceville would fail to mount a drive and punt the ball back to DAR.  The Patriots would take the ball and momentum and finish a drive with a passing play of 31 yards, and convert the extra point to make the score 7-0, with 2:19 left in the first quarter.

Kaleb Barker, would strike out on a 67-yard run off the right side, the 2-point conversion failed and DAR held a 7-6 lead for a minute. Priceville’s defense would stop the Patriots with a batted down pass by Ramsey Rey, causing a punt by DAR, giving the Bulldog offense the ball on their own 33.

Priceville would again score in an 8-play drive that was a mix of run and pass, with Austin Smith (3 Rec. 28 yards, 2 TDs) capping the drive from 10-yards out. The 2-point conversion is good and Priceville took the lead 14-7 with four minutes on the clock in the first half.  DAR would answer quickly with a long run by Daulton Parks, one of his five rushing touchdowns on the night. Priceville’s Kyle Haynes would block the extra point kick, making the score 14-13 Priceville.

Just as the half was ending, Barker, who was 14 of 23 for 221 yards, connected with Kyle Haynes on a 50-yard bomb.  Barker would plunge over the line for one of his three touchdowns rushing, seven total on the night. The extra point kick was good and Priceville was in the lead at the half 21-13.

The whole third quarter was consumed with alternating possessions that failed to score.  DAR would score first in the second half, with Daulton Parks breaking through for a 68-yard score.  After the 2-point conversion is good, the game was tied 21-21.

Kaleb Barker would match the running of Parks with a 57 yard run for a score.  Barker carried 21 times for 201 yards on the night.  Priceville would fail to convert the extra point and led 27-21.

DAR answered with a 7-play strike to again tie the game 27-27 after missing the extra point kick.  The Bulldogs were not going to give up on their undefeated run and marched down the field, scoring on a 35-yard pass from Barker to Heath Mann.  Parker Gwin would grab the 2-point conversion pass and put the Dogs up 35-27 with 5 minutes to go in regulation.

The Patriots would drive the field and score after several penalties and miscues, again making it 35-35 with 34 seconds on the clock.  Priceville would attempt a field goal with one second on the clock, the field goal attempt failed.

The overtime session would begin with DAR scoring on the first play, but failed to convert the extra point.  The Bulldogs would strike on an 8-yard pass to Austin Smith, but the Dogs would fail to convert and take the win.  With alternating possessions in high school overtime games, Priceville took their final shot, when Barker would hit Parker Gwin for a 10-yard score; one of his four catches for 48 yards, only to miss the extra point attempt.

On DAR’s final possession, Parks would score on the first carry and also score the 2-point conversion to seal the victory, 49-47.
