Hartselle BOE Meeting Notes

During the regularly scheduled board meeting of Hartselle City Schools Mon., July 13, Director of Technology Tim Southerland updated the board about the Child Internet Protection Act and Hartselle City Schools’ compliance.

With IBoss cyber security, all content goes through filters for all web/internet activity. The security allows IT to block sites by categories and specific web pages with questionable content. IT is also able to allow certain sites be open to faculty and not to students.

During testing periods, IT is able to throttle back sites such as Pandora and Netflix so web access is not slowed down for those testing online.

Southerland also reported that if the system ever adds computer equipment, that students would be able to take home the content and it would be filtered there as well.

The board took the following actions during their regularly scheduled meeting:

•Approved to sell old buses and miscellaneous equipment on govdeals.com.

•Approved Community Action Partnership of North Alabama to furnish food services for Hartselle Head Start.

•Approved eight additional out-of-district students.

•Approved the job descriptions for a special services administrative assistant/bookkeeper and a part-time special education teacher/part-time psychometrist
