Kids Play donates signs to Falkville

Kids Play Inc. in Falkville will be donating four “Welcome to Falkville” signs to the town.

Mayor Bob Ramey announced the donation at their regularly scheduled meeting Tues., May 5.

The council had decided to look into purchasing new signs a few months ago after the southern-most welcome sign on Highway 31 was blown down.

“The sign welcoming people from the south has had a lot of damage, and we haven’t been able to put it back up,” Ramey said. “Some of the other signs needed some help too, but we didn’t feel like we could afford but maybe one or two.”

Councilman Ken Winkles contacted Kids Play about ordering a sign after the signs were brought up at an earlier work session.

Kids Play wanted to donate four new signs, and all the councilmen are pleased with the look of them.

“They are going to be green PVC plastic with white lettering,” Winkles said. “They look really good, and the town can really be proud of them. We are really excited about them.”

The signs and posts for installation have already been ordered.

Ramey also updated the council on the Culver Road culvert project during the meeting.

Project engineer Russ Roberts of Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood Inc. told the council the project is ready for bidding once the easement issues are settled with all property owners.

Three property owners are involved, and one owner has signed an easement agreement. The two other owners have verbally agreed to the easement rights, but they have not signed the agreement yet.
