Postal service food drive set for Saturday

The annual National Association of Letter Carriers “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive will be Sat., May 9.

The U.S. Postal Service encourages residents to place non-perishable canned goods next to their mailboxes prior to regular mail delivery May 9. Local letter carriers will collect the food, which will be donated to local food banks.

This is the nation’s largest one-day food drive, with more than one billion pounds of food collected since the annual drive began in 1993.

“For more than two decades, the National Association of Letter Carriers and the Postal Service have worked together to stamp out hunter in America,” said Postmaster General Megan Brennan. “This year, we’ll come together once again to help feed families in need.”

In addition to the National Association of Letter Carriers and the Postal Service, sponsors include the National Rural Letter Carriers’ Association and Feeding America, a national network of food banks.

For more information, please visit the Stamp Out Hunger website for videos on the campaign or call the Hartselle Post Office at 256-773-6671.
