Charlotte Canon

A memorial service for Charlotte Halliburton Watkins Canon, 91, of Falkville will be Fri., March 13, at 3 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Florence with the Rev. John McKell officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until service time at the church.

Mrs. Canon died Sat., March 7, 2015, at Summerford Nursing Home. She was born Sept. 25, 1923 in Paris, Tenn., to Charles H. Watkins and Bertie Greer Watkins. She was preceded in death by her sister Eleanor W. Mackintosh; her twin brother, Charles H. Watkins Jr.; and her husband, Ruffin Sledge Canon. Mrs. Canon was a graduate of The University of Memphis, served as church bookkeeper for 25 years and was a charter member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, PCUSA. She was also a longtime member of P.E.O. Chapter S; a book club that rarely read books; a sewing club that rarely sewed; and a bridge club that did play cards.

Mrs. Canon is survived by two daughters, Amelia B. Canon of Hartselle and Eleanor K. Canon of Baton Rouge, La.; and many much loved nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church in Florence, Alabama.
