Lady Bulldogs come up short in opening game

Priceville’s Lady Bulldogs opened their softball season at home Feb. 23 with a 15-9 loss to West Morgan’s Lady Rebels.

The Lady Bulldogs were behind 9-0 before they scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the third and added four more in the fifth. They also scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth after West Morgan picked up five runs in the top of the same inning.

“We wanted to use the first game as a measuring stick to see where we stand,” said head coach Preston Potter. “The loss was a disappointment to our players because they want to win every game. They showed a lot of fight and determination against a very good team. That’s a positive. I’m excited to see how good we can be when we have more game experience.”

Senior Abby St. John and eighth grader Destinee Hargrove logged impressive performances at the plate. St John had a triple, a single, scored a run and stole a base, and Hargrove had a pair of singles, scored a run and stole a base.

Senior McKenzie Parker scored two runs and stole a base, junior Kenzie Price and sophomore Sara Beth Wilson each had an RBI single, sophomore Alex Shields had an RBI and scored a run and freshman Hannah Wheeler had a single and scored a run.
