Danville is headed back to the Northwest Regional at Wallace State Community College for the fifth time in nine-year tenure of head coach Paul Wilson, after the Lady Hawks held on for a 47-44 win over Central-Florence Monday night.

After leading 16-12 at the end of the first quarter and 29-25 at the half, Danville held Central to just four points to take a 39-29 lead at the end of the third quarter.

Wilson said he felt like the turning point in the game came in the third quarter when they went to a 2-2-1 zone.

“We don’t usually play that, but we saw Deshler use it against them and it led to a 7-0 run,” Wilson said. “We left a lot of points out there, and that’s the reason why the game was so close. If we make our shots, we’re up at least 17 easy.”

Tabetha Hutto scored six of her 12 points in the fourth quarter to help seal the win. The only other Hawk to score in the final quarter was Tara Tuck, who hit a pair of free throws and finished with 6 points.

Charlee Anderson added 8 points while Callie Ryan, Sydni Shelton and Gracie George joined Tuck at 6 points each. McKayla Stover added a 3-pointer.

Abby Keener led Central with 18 points, 8 of which came in the fourth quarter, followed by Santana Beasley with 11 and Amberlee Carter with 10.

The Lady Hawks will travel to the Tom Drake Coliseum at Wallace State Community College Saturday at noon to take on Cordova.
