When Hartselle needed a play the most, senior Madison Williams delivered.

Trailing 48-47, Williams converted a 3-point play on her short jumper and free throw, giving Hartselle the lead for good in 53-51 win over Lawrence County.

Kayla Key, a junior, added three free throws in the waning minutes to ice the game at the foul line.

However, the Lady Tigers held their breath as they watched Lawrence County’s potential game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer bounce off the rim.

Key and Williams finished with 13 and 12, respectively.

Fellow seniors Riley Terry and Allie Roden also had 10 and 8, respectively.

Rounding out the scoring for Hartselle were Katie Glasgow with 4, Anna Mathis with 3, Lindsay Berry with 2 and Riley Corum with 1.

Rachel Childress and Megan Hill kept Lawrence County in the game, scoring 19 and 17 points.

The Lady Tigers also defeated Brewer on Saturday night in the final home game.

Hartselle will take on Cullman today, Feb. 4, at 6 p.m. in the first round of the area tournament at Austin.

A one-minute, 8-0 run at the end of the first half proved to be the difference in a win on senior night.

The outburst allowed Lawrence County to turn a one-point deficit into a 31-24 halftime lead.

Hartselle fought back, thanks to senior Casen Wallace’s 21 points, including five 3-pointers. Hartselle trailed 40-39 with just over three minutes to go in the game.

Lawrence County put the game out of reach by outscoring Hartselle 13-8 down the stretch.

Seth Garner also added 10 points for the Tigers, followed by Isaac Taylor with 8, Jaylan Jackson with 4, Grant Jared with 3 and Dolan Golden with 1.

Jesse Moreno led Lawrence County with 21, followed by Greyson Long with 10.

Hartselle rallied to blow out Brewer on Saturday night in the Tigers’ final home game of the regular season.

The Tigers will take on host Cullman for the first round of the area tournament Thursday at 6 p.m.
