Man charged with assault, kidnapping

A Marshall County man is in the Morgan County Jail after being accused of breaking into a former girlfriend’s home and attempting to assault and kidnap her.

Colby Dwight Birdsong, 24, of Marshall County has been charged with burglary in the first degree, kidnapping in the first degree, domestic violence by strangulation or suffocation and violation of a protection from abuse order. He is being held on a $350,000 bond.

Morgan County Sheriff’s dispatchers received a 911 call Thursday at 8:49 a.m. The female caller said that an estranged boyfriend had entered her home, wielded a knife, attempted to tie her up, physically assaulted her and threatened her life.

Investigators were familiar identified the suspect as Birdsong. A warrant for the arrest of Birdsong was obtained, and Marshall County authorities were notified to be on the look out for Birdsong.

Birdsong was spotted at the Wal-Mart in Arab and taken into custody.
