FALKVILLE- Hartselle Lady Tigers’ head coach Gary Orr got his first Morgan County championship win tonight over Priceville 62-45.

Riley Terry paced the Tigers with 17 points. Allie Roden was close behind with 13, while Anna Mathis has 8, Kayla Key and Madison Williams both had 7 and Klyne Osborne had 6.

McKenzie Parker made a big impact for the Bulldogs with 23 points. Shyanne Stackhouse had 7, Ashlee Quinn had 5 and Jordan Speegle had 4.

After a shaky start to the season, Hartselle picked up their scoring and pulled out a big win.

“They’ve really been paying well together,” said Orr. “Hopefully they can stay on this path and continue to get better with every game. They started shooting well against Cullman and have been decent lately. When we’ve struggled offensively, our defense had picked up for us.”

Four Hartselle girls were named to the Morgan County Basketball All-Tournament team.  They were Terry, Roden, Mathis and Key. Priceville’s Quinn was also named to the team with teammate Parker earning the Jane Nelson Fields MVP Award.

Parker, a four-year starter for the Bulldogs, said she was proud of her team. She has offers from both Faulkner State University and the University of West Alabama to continue playing basketball.

“We have never made it past the first game in the Morgan County Tournament since I’ve been in high school,” Parker said. “I think we have progressed pretty well. Being in the finals was great, but it would have been nice to win it.”

Orr said he hopes this success will have an effect on future seasons.

“You always want what you’re doing this season to jump start what you do next season,” Orr said. “Maybe this will bring back the success the program had seen earlier and help it build.”

Others named to the All-Tournament team include Charlee Anderson of Danville, Autumn Eddy of Falkville and Jennifer Childers of Brewer.
