Revenues and expenses for Hartselle City Schools are still on track for the 2014-2015 fiscal year, according to chief schools financial officer Jonathan Craft.

Craft said the school system normally receives the majority of its funding during the months of December and January in the school year.

So far he doesn’t anticipate any changes to the budget at this time.

“The revenues have been a little slower coming in than last year at this time, but we still believe they will be very close to what we’ve budgeted,” Craft said. “The revenues are a little flat compared to last year, but it appears like they’re where we expected them to be.”

The Hartselle Board of Education passed a budget with $29.7 million in revenue and $29.2 in expenses. However, the general fund budget is expected to decline by $300,000, leaving the school system with about $7.65 million in the general fund.

“We haven’t adjusted the $300,000 deficit that we projected,” Craft said. “I hope that we will be able to beat that.”

A school system is required to keep at least one month of expenses in its general fund, and the anticipated balance would keep Hartselle well above three months of expenses.

At the end of December, Craft said the school system was near 25 percent of expenses and revenues after one-fourth of the fiscal year complete.

Craft said the majority of the school system’s revenues from property and other taxes come in during December and January.
