Raymond S. Vest

Funeral for Raymond S. Vest, 86, will be held Sun., Dec. 28, at 2 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Revs. Roy Callahan and Charles Williams officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be at Johnson Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time on Sunday at the Funeral Home.

Mr. Vest died Dec. 24, 2014, at Summerford Nursing Home. He was born June 19, 1928, to Bevie and Azilee Vest. He was a charter member of First Holy Church of Christ in Decatur, where he directed music, served the community in a bus outreach and other ministries. For many years he was involved with “The National Gospel Singing Convention” representing Alabama. Also, he was the leader of a songbook singing at Summerford Nursing Home for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents; the mother of his girls, Virginia Dotson Vest Hollis ; and sister-in-law, Wilma Vest.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Wanize Vest, his brother Delbert Vest of Hartselle and five children, Ann R. Moseley (Bob) of Sardis, Mary Callahan (Roy) of Florence, MS, Regina Jackson (Greg) of Moulton, Randy Pearson (Sheila) of Hillsboro and Anita Sparks (Johnny) of Hillsboro; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grand-children; one great-great-grandchild; and many loving nieces, nephews, and family members.

Mr. Vest and his family were grateful for the care and assistance he received from kind staff at Summerford Nursing Home in Falkville, where Raymond spent his final days.

Pallbearers will be Tim Brown, Billy Vest, Earl Vest, Gary Vest, Ray Vest and Virgil Vest.
