Gail Hale is giving Barkley Bridge second and fourth graders a unique present for the holidays – a bookmark with their name embroidered on it.

Hale brought her sewing and embroidery machine to the school last week and got each student to write their name on a digital, which converts their handwriting into stitches for the bookmark.

“It’s just something I enjoy doing for the students each year,” Hale said. “Sewing is one of my hobbies and I enjoy it.”

Hale is no stranger to Barkley Bridge Elementary. She worked in the library from when the school opened until she retired a few years ago.

Last year, she brought back the bookmark tradition for a new generation of Barkley Bridge students and is continuing it this holiday season.
