Joe Wheeler #291 members baked, purchased and distributed approximately 700 cookies to visitors at the U.S. Veterans Memorial Museum in Huntsville Nov. 11.

The museum is open year-round Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Located just south of Memorial Parkway on Airport Road, the museum could easily be overlooked, but splendid stories live inside the walls of the museum. Tanks, Jeeps, weaponry, maps, badges, photographs, orders and letters from servicemen tell our country’s history. Listening to the older veterans tell their stories makes one feel so humble and listeners are reminded that they can never repay them.

Faye McWhorter organized the refreshment distribution. As usual, she used cotton to depict the old south. Having worked several years with the veterans and helping to organize honor flights, she knew so many of the veterans and their families as they toured the exhibit.

Thank you cards folded and beribboned by Triston, Chloe and Ryan Hanks of Little Joe Wheeler #764 Children of Confederacy were given to the veterans.

Linda Clemons, Janice Hunter, Gail Birmingham and Deroma Montgomery greeted visitors. Deroma’s grandchildren, prospective members for Little Joe Wheeler #764 Children of Confederacy were fascinated by the weaponry.

Following the event, members delivered 300 cookies to the Tut Fann Veterans Home.
