Carolyn Wallace was applauded and thanked for her service to Morgan County School as she ended a 24-year tenure as holder of the District 2 seat at a regular meeting of the board Thursday night.

“This is the last regular meeting of the board I’ll be attending,” Wallace said as the business session ended. “I wanted to go out quietly; I didn’t even tell my family.”

“It’s been a wonderful journey,” she added, “and I want to thank all of you for finishing my school at Danville.

“I was serving as PTO president when I came on the school board. I was ashamed of the condition of Danville’s schools and committed myself to work for new facilities, not just at Danville but throughout the system.

One of the most exciting times I experienced as a board member was to see students walking down the hallways of new schools.”

“I always tried to think before making a decision,” she pointed out. “I learned to be persistent. Don’t ever give up. God bless all of you and Morgan County Schools.”

Superintendent Bill Hopkins Jr. commented, “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with you during my time as superintendent and thank you for the support you’ve given to making this a good school system for our children.  We will miss you on the board.”

Board member Tom Earwood reminded board members that Wallace logged 700 credit hours of continuing education while attending courses sponsored by the Alabama Association of School Boards and was recognized as “Board Member of the Year.”

“This speaks highly of her dedication and ability and the devotion she has shown toward the education of our children,” he pointed out.

“We are going to miss you, Carolyn,” said board member Jimmy Dobbs. “You have been an excellent board member and I thank you for your service.”

“You have done a good job for Morgan County kids,” said board member Mike Tarpley, “and I wish you the best in your future endeavors.”

“As a former principal, I always said I would want Mrs. Wallace as one of my school board members,” said board member Jeff McLemore.

“Carolyn will be missed by the board and the people of the Danville area,”

said board member Billy Rhodes. “I thank her for what she’s done for the children of Morgan County and look forward to working with Adam Glenn, her replacement.”

“What we will miss the most in your experience,” board chairman Paul Holmes said to Wallace. “You have been a great attribute to the board and I appreciate what you have done for the school system.”

Wallace opted not to seek another school board term but instead qualified for the Republican nomination for Morgan County Commissioner of Licenses.  She lost her bid for that office in a run-off election with Sharon Maxwell. She will continue to serve as director of Hartselle Beautification Association.
