Hartselle grads help Wallace extend winning streak to 14

Wallace State’s five-defending region champion volleyball team closed out a perfect September on Tuesday, sweeping Southern Union on the road in three sets.

Wallace State prevailed 25-14, 25-21, 25-13 over the Bison. The Lions (19-3, 7-0 Alabama Community College Conference), winners of 14 matches in a row, have yet to lose a set to a conference foe this season.

Two Hartselle graduates were team leaders against the Bison. Sarah Ellen Battles finished with 22 digs, and Melissa-Paul Hill had eight assists.

Wallace State has several individuals atop the statistical leaderboard as conference play hits the final month. Battles, a freshman from Hartselle, is third with 257 digs.

Wallace State dips out of conference action on Thursday as the Lions travel to Vincennes (Ind.) University for a 6 p.m. match. They’ll remain in Indiana this weekend to compete in a two-day tournament at Vincennes.
