A team of five trap shooters from Danville placed first in the Academics, Integrity and Marksmanship Grand National Championship- Senior Division in Sparta, Ill.

The team consists of Connor Boyd, Cameron Boyd, Lucas Randolph, Landon Sims and Zachary Benefield. Scott Boyd is the head coach.

The “Bama Clay Busters” formed over six years ago. Since then, they have been able to build their own trap and skeet range through fundraising, instead of having to drive to a range over an hour away. Their full roster includes 25 members, both boys and girls.

The AIM National shoot included 1,300 youth trap shooters from over 26 states. The two-day tournament was held during the first week of August. The five shooter-team, consisting of boys ranging from 13-21 years old, competed against 11 other teams in the senior division.

After the first day of competition, the squad was already in first place by one target. The next day, the boys finished with 15 more targets than the previous day, which gave them first place.
