Shady Grove Baptist hosts VBS

The members of Shady Grove Baptist Church enjoyed hosting its vacation Bible school June 1­-5.

The theme for the Bible school was “Agency D3, Discover Decide Defend.” The average attendance was 83 children and workers and the Bible school offering total of $210 will be used to fix up “Gracie,” the church’s recently acquired church bus.

Happy birthday wishes go out to Bill Hargett on July 17, Alan Lacy on July 19 and Janis Spinks July 20, and also to Mac Hardin of Massey community. He will celebrate his 12th birthday on July 24.

Belated happy birthday wishes go out this week to his Granny, Hattie Mae Hardin, for her 96th birthday on July 13. Hattie is a resident at Summerford Nursing Home since August 2010.

Belated happy birthday wishes also go out this week to Colton Spinks on July 2, Preston Byrd on July 3, Katy Sparkman on July 4, my friend Kay Farrer of Hartselle on July 7, Jenna Berry on July 8, Braydon Waits on July 10, Louis Depreast on July 11, Pam Holmes of Massey and John Locklear on July 13, Tony Turrentine and Tran Griffin on July 14, Breanna Gray and Glenda Yarbrough on July 15.

The Neel United Methodist Women met Wed., July 2, at 7 p.m. at the church. Michelle Randolph presided, Audrey Crow conducted the program and Brenda Lewis was the hostess.

Thirteen members attended. Their next session will be Wed., Aug. 6, at 7 p.m.

Round Top Community Church will have Swamp John’s supper Fri., July 18, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the family life center. The potluck fellowship supper will be Wed., July 30.

Christian love and heartfelt sympathy go out this week for the Charles Hardy family. Charles was from Falkville and a member of the Falkville High School class of 1954.

He was married to Jean Lipsey of Hartselle for 50 years and lived in Hartselle until recently. Charles and Jean’s son, Jason and family live in Southwest Louisiana.

They moved to be near the family after Charles became ill. His mother was Ruth Jones of the Fairview community. They have many relations in the South Morgan County area.

Paul and Frances Rowe of Massey and Lucy Slater of Cherokee Ridge celebrated July 4 at the home of Sallye and Mike Swafford, Brennan and Rowe in Hartselle.

Pick and Mandy Rowe and Maeleigh of Massey spent the Fourth of July holiday at Smith Lake.

On Sun., July 6, the Corinth West Baptist Women’s group met at 10 a.m. The chairwoman, Donna Smithson presided and Shanda Garner gave the devotional. The women planned the Tuesday senior citizen lunch for July 15 at 11 a.m. in the fellowship hall.

Donna is also the director of the vacation Bible school and plans were made for those nights July 20-23. After refreshments and fellowship, Gaynell Wilhite prayed the benediction.

Dot Wallace Allen has returned to Columbia Cottage Assisted Living in Hartselle after being in rehab at Summerford Nursing Home. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with Dot.

Belated happy wedding anniversary wishes go out this week for Rassie and Avis Wallace for their 46th wedding anniversary July 13 and Brian and Amber Pendleton for their sixth wedding anniversary July 14.

Happy wedding anniversary wishes are expressed to John and Mary Locklear for their 46th wedding anniversary July 20.

Jenny Asherbranner, librarian at Falkville Public Library, and assistant Marie Sivley want to thank those children, youth and parents who attended the summer reading program Thur., July 3. Thirty-six enjoyed the story time and refreshments.

Many books were checked out and some library cards were processed. Everyone in the area is welcome to the Thur., July 17 program at 2 p.m. Joe Wheeler Co-op personnel will present electrical safety and there will be time for checking out books.

Johnson’s Chapel United Methodist Women met Wed., July 9 at 6 p.m. in the fellowship hall. Marla Marshall, president of the group also had the program.

Their next meeting will be Wed., Aug. 13. Shirley Standridge will present the program.
