Locals head to FCCLA Nationals

This week, students from 25 Alabama high schools are in Texas to attend l leadership development workshops and  national competitions at the 2014 Family, Career and Community Leaders of America  (FCCLA) National Leadership Conference, July 6-10.

More than 7,000 FCCLA students, teachers and business professionals from across the nation have gathered in San Antonio for this event. This year’s conference theme is “SOAR.”

Among those competing are Priceville High School students  Alana Drake and Liana Pittman and West Morgan Students Noah Brazelton and Matthew Wallace.

Drake and Pittman competed in Chapter in Review Portfolio and Brazelton and Wallace in Environmental Ambassador.

Hollie Miller.of Priceville and Julie Rolin of West Morgan attended the conference as FCCLA chapter advisors..

“We have 110 students competing in the national contest,” said Alabama FCCLA state advisor Jennifer Adams. “There will be over 30 different Family and Consumer Sciences-related competitions. These include Culinary Arts, Knowledge Bowl, Career Investigation and Fashion Construction to name a few. Top winners. Top winner earn gold, silver and bonze medals.

During this year’s conference, students will have an opportunity to receive career guidance from top business professionals, network with peers and discover the benefits of having a strong work ethic through their participation in national STAR events.
