Falkville delays Buster Road upgrades

The Falkville Town Council decided at a public hearing Thursday at 2 p.m. to decline a CDBG grant for improvements to Buster Road until the culvert at Culver Road can be replaced.

County Commissioner Don Stisher said the culvert at Culver Road will not last much longer with the increased truck traffic.

“Culver Road improvements can’t really wait,” Stisher said. “The road is passable and adequate for car traffic, but the heavy load of the trucks and the wet conditions will quickly make the culvert impassable. We have time to wait on Buster Road Until we make improvements to Culver Road.”

The council was awarded a grant to help pay for the Buster Road project, but the project would redirect traffic to Culver Road, which may not be able to take the extra traffic. The council said there would be big problems if the culvert on Culver Road were to go out and there was no other alternative route around the construction.

The council could reapply for the Buster Road grant again after the Culver Road project has been started.
