FHS comes up short in state tourney

Falkville’s Lady Blue Devils had difficulty hitting the ball and failed to make it out of the first day of the Class 1A State Softball Tournament in Montgomery on Thursday.

They managed only six hits and dropped a 7-1 decision to Billingsley in their opening game. Playing in the loser’s bracket, they were eliminated by Kinston 4-2 later the same day.

In the opener, Lindsey Moore had a RBI single and scored a run, Paige Garner and Bailey Anders each had a double, and Makenzie Smith, Lyndsey Moore and Cheyenne Wilson each had a single.

Callie Garner was the losing pitcher. She allowed four runs on four hits while walking three batters. Alexis Smith pitched two innings in relief, allowing three runs on two hits while striking out one batter and walking four.

In a loser’s bracket game. The Lady Blue Devils dropped a 4-2 decision to Kinston.

Casteel led Falkville at the plate with a double and single, a RBI and scored a run. Wilson had a double, P. Garner singled and knocked in a run, and Anders and Emoni Smith each singled.

Casteel was the losing pitcher. She allowed four runs on seven hits while striking out two batters.
