Joe William Sims

Funeral for Joe William Sims, 73, of Hartselle will be Mon., April 21, at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Hal Daigre officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in Forrest Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be Mon., April 21, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home.

Mr. Sims was born Jan. 15, 1941, in Morgan County to William Cargal Sims and Virginia Inez Johnson Sims. He was a member of First Independent Methodist Church, of Flint, where he was a Sunday school teacher. He was a United States Army Veteran, Cubmaster for Pack 92 Hartselle, longtime assistant Scoutmaster Troop 336 Hartselle. He handcrafted and restored musical instruments. He was a graduate of Florence State College and Morgan County High School. He loved his family and community. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Mary Puckett Sims, of Hartselle; two sons, David W. Sims (Debbie) of Hartselle, John F. Sims (Susie) of Haleyville; a brother, Don A. Sims (Jeannie) of Paris, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Jonathan Croley and Mary Grace Sims of Hartselle and Will Sims and David A. Sims of Haleyville.

Pallbearers will be Shane McGregor, Bob Pettit, Jim Webster, Greg Sivley, Randall Key and Anthony Shaneyfelt.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Bobby Webster, Bobby Blankenship, Kenneth Owens, Leon Blankenship Charles “Shorty” Lane, Roy Mitchell, John Ferguson and Truman Bridges.

In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to Hospice of the Valley.
