Poe’s grand slam keys Hartselle win

Gracie Poe hit a grand slam to pace Hartselle in an 11-4 win over Cullman in an area game Tuesday.

Poe’s homer, which came in her first at bat, capped an eight-run fifth inning to break the game open.

Hope Cain started the rally by driving in Sydnee Wiley on a double. Wascavage brought home Cain on another RBI double. Wascavage later scored on a passed ball.

Hannah Jenkins then drove in Jada Hayes.

A Madeline Sittason single and a Sarah Ellen Battles walk loaded the bases to set up Poe’s heroics.

Sittason score the first run on a wild pitch in the second inning.

Jenkins and Sittason drove in the final two runs in the top of the seventh inning.

Cain, Sittason and Jenkins led the way with three hits apiece while Wascavage and Battles added two his each. Ashley Boggs, Hayes and Wiley had the other hits.

Hayes struck out 11 while allowing four unearned runs on 11 hits with one walk.
