Bank Independent of Hartselle will host a special coin display honoring the 50th Anniversary of the Kennedy Half Dollar from Mon, April 21, thru Fri., April 25.

The display is part of National Coin Week, which is an annual event sponsored by the American Numismatic Association (ANA). The ANA was chartered by Congress in 1912, and is headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The term numismatic means “relating to the study of coins or currency.”

The Kennedy Half Dollar was designed and in production by January 30, 1964, which was less than 90 days after his assassination. The Kennedy Half Dollar is 50 years old this year. The exhibit will highlight different examples of the Kennedy half dollar used during the past 50 years.

A drawing will be held at the bank on Fri., April 25, at 3:00 p.m. Three specially minted 90 percent, silver 1964 proof Kennedy half dollars will be given away. Anyone can register, but multiple entries will disqualify any name drawn.

Be sure to register at Bank Independent any time before the drawing for an opportunity to win one of these historical coins.
