Commission accepts bid for 4 tornado shelters

The Morgan County Commission approved a

bid from Aqua Marine

Enterprises totaling

$193,960 for the construction

of four community

safe rooms in three separate

locations at its regular

meeting on Thursday.

Two of the safe rooms

will be located in the

Town of Eva. The other

two will at Brindlee

Mountain Volunteer Fire

Department and Oak

Ridge Volunteer Fire

Department near Hartselle.

Each room will be

equipped with a bathroom

and emergency generator

and will seat approximately

96 people.

“This project has been in

progress for more than a

year,” said Commission

Chairman Ray Long.

“Families in these communities

without safe

rooms will be able to

breathe a sigh of relief

now that the shelters are

under contract. They

should be operational

within a couple of

months.“

Eva’s safe rooms are 100

percent funded by federal

and state grants while

those at Brindlee

Mountain and Oak Ridge

are subject to a 75 percent

federal and 25 percent

local match.
