A Hartselle family of four escaped without injury when a fire broke out in their rent-to-own home at 3151 Huckaby Bridge Road early Wednesday morning.

Hartselle Fire & Rescue was called to the scene at 1:03 a.m.

“When we arrived flames from a fire in the attic were coming out both ends of the house,” said Hartselle Fire & Rescue investigator Randy Summerford. “The family was awakened by the fire and was outside of the house when we arrived. No one was injured; however, a cat and two rabbits remained inside.”

Summerford said the fire’s origin was in the attic above a laundry room.

“It’s likely going to be a total loss,” he added. “The occupants reported not having insurance on the contents but the owner had insurance on the house.”

The house was occupied by the family of James Scott Cloer ands the owner of the property is Travis Key.

Summerford said two engine companies and a ladder truck were used by firefighters to extinguish the fire. They were on the scene until 6 a.m.
