Howard Burks

Funeral for Mr. Howard Burks, 89, of Cotaco will be Fri., Feb. 14, at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Charles Owens officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery with Military Honors and Masonic Honors. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Friday, at the funeral home.

Mr. Burks died Tues., Feb. 11, 2014, at his home in Cotaco. He was born Feb. 28, 1924, in Tarrant City to Edward Roland Burks and Vina Idora Green Burks. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, and was the recipient of multiple honors including 2 Purple Hearts while serving in the 82nd Airborne Division. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church and the Arrites Oden Masonic Lodge # 396 in Falkville and was an avid fisherman. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Burks; a son, Mike Burks; and a grandson, Chris Parker.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Algie Jones Burks; two sons, Jimmy Burks (Julie) of Guntersville and Steve Burks of Cotaco, three daughters, Sandra Cross (Keith) of Decatur, Debbie McLemore (Ron) of Hartselle and Barbara Jones (J.P.) of Union Hill; a brother, Gene Burks of Florida; eleven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Burks, Steve Burks, J.P. Jones, Keith Cross, Jeffrey Parker and Jason Wilbanks.
