Sonoco launches Relay campaign

The Reels Division of Sonoco Products Company launched its 2014 Relay for Life fundraising campaign Oct. 25.

Workers at the Hartselle Sonoco locations purchased pink T-shirts with the words “Reel Workers Wear Pink” on the front in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The employees raised almost $500 with the purchase of the T-shirts. The Sonoco Reels Relay for Life team raised over $6,000 last year and has a goal of $10,000 this year.

Other fundraisers will be planned throughout the year.

Sonoco is one of the largest employers in Hartselle with a work force of more than 500 employees. The company manufactures reels for the wire and cable industry.

There are three plants in Hartselle that produce steel, nailed wood and plywood reels and molded plugs.

The Sonoco Reels division also has a nailed wood reel plant in Texas, a polyfiber reel plant in Georgia, and over 20 distribution service centers throughout the US.
