Shady Grove Baptist to host Bible study

Members of Shady Grove Baptist Church are planning a new Beth Moore Bible study, beginning on Aug. 28. The name of the study is “The Patriarchs” and the time will be from 7 to 8 p.m. each Wednesday throughout the upcoming school year. Please let Heather Roden know if you are interested in joining this class so books can be ordered ahead of time.

The McKendree United Methodist Church ladies hosted their first annual “Summer Breeze Wo-men’s Retreat” Sat., July 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the sanctuary. Lynn Hogan provided leadership for the event as program chairperson. Linda Huskey welcomed members and guests from area churches and communities. She also led the congregational singing and introduced the speakers and singers.

During the morning session, the speaker was Nicole Baughn. She is the head of Crossroads Christian Academy at Shiloh Baptist Church in Somerville. Nicole is the author of the book, Genesis, which is about Jewish holidays and traditions in Israel. She spoke to those attending about the four seasons in our lives and of the Jewish calendar.

Special music was presented by Brenda Folette. She is the music and women’s minister at Shiloh Church. April Pearson shared many humorous stories from her church experiences during the afternoon. She is the founder of “The Basket Case Ministry” at Fairview Baptist Church in Cullman County. She serves as their minister of music and works with a group called “The Basket Care Ministry.” Members make baskets and use them in their counseling for all kinds of needs. Linda Huskey prayed the benediction.

Lynn Hogan and Beth Shelton express their appreciation to those who helped with the program and food. The 46 people who attended the retreat enjoyed a delicious lunch of salads and desserts in the fellowship hall. Beth Shelton coordinated the meal.

The McKendree ladies thank all those who attended. Rev. Mike Vest is the pastor at Danville and McKendree United Methodist Churches.
