George Leon ‘Buddy’ Burns

Funeral for George Leon “Buddy” Burns, 81, of Hartselle was Tues., June 25, at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Harold Thompson officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Hartselle Memory Gardens.

Mr. Burns died Sat., June 22, 2013, at Decatur Morgan Hospital. He was born September 17, 1931, in Morgan County to Herman Nathaniel Burns and Madelene Walker Burns.  Mr. Burns served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He attended the University of Alabama and worked for Brown Engineering in Huntsville during the 1960’s Gemini Project. He was a member of Hartselle United Methodist Church and a former employee of the Telex Corporation as an engineering computer technology specialist. He was preceded in death by his wife, Winnie Fay Roberts Burns and his parents.

He is survived by two sons, Norman Burns and Glenn Burns and wife Janet; two daughters, Melinda Hayner and Karen Richie; a brother, Tom Burns and wife Ramona; a sister, Inez Prince and husband William; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Ryan Richie, Brandon Richie, Mitchell Burns, Patrick Burns, Michael Welch and Jim Burns.
