Herring celebrates 94th birthday

Special congratulations go out this week to Doris Herring who celebrated her 94th birthday on Sun., May 26, with a family lunch. Her sons Larry, Theron and Ferrell Anders and their wives, seven grandchildren and their spouses, friends and three great-grandchildren helped her enjoy the very special day. Also attending were cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, neighbors and friends. Doris and several of her grandchildren played their guitars and sang songs during the afternoon. Others joined in as well and a family member said that “You Are My Sunshine” is a favorite of everyone. Those who travel through Massey can see Doris’ beautiful flowers in her yard and garden. Family and friends still enjoy her wonderful meals and warm welcome to her home.

Evergreen Cemetery had Decoration Day on Sun., May 26. Everyone who descended from Evergreen Church members and community residents miss the memorial service at Evergreen United Methodist Church. The Methodist Conference sold the church building and lot several years ago. Family members still gather at the cemetery on Sunday morning. Many have fond memories of lunch at the outdoor tables still standing on the historic Evergreen Church building grounds. Some of them include the following families: Parkers, Minters, Anders, Summerfords, Blackwoods, Jones, Buckelews, Penns, Staples, Woodruffs, Praytors, Beasleys, Baileys, Garners, Asherbranners, Alvises, Shaws, Gibsons, Carrs, Bennetts, Woods, Owens, Bryants, Mynatts and Campbells.

Special belated happy birthday wishes go out this week to Brit Bowling on May 27, Chris Long on May 28 and Alyson Robertson on May 28.

Wonderful belated happy wedding anniversary wishes go out this week to Jason and Paige Boyd who celebrated their 18th wedding anniversary, Mike and Kay Hanline

who celebrated their 18th wedding anniversary, both on Mon., May 27.

Special happy wedding anniversary wishes go out this week to Tim and Sally Roden who celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary on Thur., May 30.

Falkville Public Library now has a memorial bench for the late Vernon Ayre, a patron for many years and a member of the library board for several years before his illness. A travel book will be placed in the library in his memory as well. The board met on Tues., May 7, at 9 a.m. as plans and bids for new windows on the library’s west wall were discussed. The Summer Reading Program dates are July 2, 9, 16 and 23. “Dig In and Read” is the program theme this year. There are new best sellers, magazines and newspapers available. Please visit the library and browse, read or use the computers.

James and Jan Stephens of Neel attended a graduation party on Sat., May 18, at 6 p.m. at the home of Chris Warnick in Hartselle. The barbecue supper party was in honor of Sean Flanagan who graduated from Hartselle High School on May 20. He is the son of Jolene Barnett of Hartselle. Sean plans to attend Wallace State and major in business management. Congratulations and best wishes Sean.

Members of Shady Grove Baptist Church remember in loving memory this week, John Edgar Hughes, May 5, 1918 – July 8, 2012; Marvolene Herbert, May 8, 1929 – July 4, 2012; Louie “Eldon” Morris, May 19, 1927 – Jan. 15, 2007; and Mary “Evelyn” Edwards, May 11, 1913 – July 25, 2002.

Melee Laney hosted the McKendree United Methodist Church Ladies Night Out group, Tues., May 14, at her home in Massey. Everyone enjoyed a potluck supper and making plans for next month’s project.

On Sat., May 18, members helped assemble layette  kits and health kits for (UMCOR) United Methodists Committee on relief at Salem United Methodist Church. Tammy Vest went to Danville United Methodist Church on Sat., May 18, to help make cards for the shut-ins and for patients at several of our nursing homes. Ladies night out group members include Sally Kerr, Tammy Vest, Beth Shelton, Frances Rowe, Kim Tanner, Larissa Partlow, Shelba Laney, Lynn Hogan, Stephanie Crawley, Melee Laney and Rhona Summerford.

Jenny Asherbranner hosted an outdoor Tupperware party by her pool Sun., May 26, at 2 p.m. Those attending enjoyed the merchandise display, sun, fun and food.

There is good news from Ann Blair Sullins, owner of the Massey store. She has been very ill and taking treatments for cancer for sometime. Recently, she got an all-clear report from her oncologist. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Ann and God bless you.
