Priceville falls in area tourney

Priceville’s Lady Bulldogs put up a good fight against one of the top-ranked Class 4A softball teams in the state before being eliminated in the loser’s bracket on Thursday.

The Lady Bulldogs led top-seeded Haleyville, ranked second in Class 4A, early in an opening round game but were unable to hold and went on ton to lose 6-3.

They were eliminated by Brooks, 13-6 in a loser’s bracket game later the same day.

Against Haleyville, the Lady Bulldogs collected eight hits. The big blows came from the bats of Abby St. John and Amber Johnson as each belted a home run. Johnson also singled. Mckenzie Parker belted a double and Alison Varner, Brittany Marks, Emily Williams and Sara Beth Wilson each added a single.

Erin Payne was the losing pitcher, allowing five runs on six hits while striking out three batters in four and two-third innings.

In the loss to Brooks, Priceville’s Marks belted a home run. Williams had a double and single, Varner had a pair of singles, Parker doubled and Sara Beth Wilson singled.

Madison Beddingfield was the losing pitcher, allowing 10 runs on 10 hits in four and two-thirds innings.
