James Newell Walker

Funeral for James Newell Walker, 93, of Hartselle, was Mon., April 29, at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Steve Brown and Billy Gable officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Burial was in Salem Methodist Cemetery.

Mr. Walker died April 26, 2013, at his residence. He was born April 20, 1920, in Lawrence County to Robert Archie Walker and Alice Virginia Legg Walker. Mr. Walker was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He served as a sergeant in the 87th Infantry Division. He was a member of Straightway Faith Independent Baptist Church. He was a Christian and believed that it is only through Jesus that anyone can go to Heaven. He was a man who believed in God, hard work, the Bible and family. He was a farmer for many years and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Charlotte Walker Bradley and son-in-law, Jimmy Bradley, of Hartselle.

He is survived by his wife, Annie Lois Blackwood Walker; one son, Alan Walker and wife Sharon, of Hartselle; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Chris Hemming, Randy Hinkle, Jimmy Bradley, Seth Pillow, Jakob Smith and Matt Hill.
