Hartselle girls sweep Cullman to clinch playoff berth

Hartselle’s girls soccer team shut out Cullman on back-to-back nights to clinch a playoff berth.

Hartselle (14-8-2, 3-3) defeated Cullman 3-0 on Monday night.

Sarah Horner scored two goals and Susie Barriault scored one. Assists were by Leah Roberts, Haley Patterson and Amber Hicks.

The Lady Tigers then beat Cullman again on Tuesday night 2-0. The goals came from Roberts and Alycia Timm. Horner and Barriault had the assists.

“By beating them both days, we qualified for the playoffs as the second place finisher in Section 8,” said girls soccer coach Jeff Roberts. “This is the third year in a row that we have qualified for the playoffs.”

The Lady Tigers will travel to Fort Payne on Tues., April 30, at 5 pm in the first round of the playoffs.

Hartselle tied with East Limestone for second but advanced to playoffs on head-to-head goal differential. After Hartselle lost to the Indians 1-0 at home, the Lady Tigers had to beat them by two goals to have the chance to make the playoffs.

Hartselle defeated East Limestone 6-3 on the road to end up with a +2 goal differential.
