Alred wins Wax Company Scholarship
McKensie Alred of Hartselle was presented with a Wax Company Scholarship at the recent 70th Annual Alabama Cattlemen’s Association Convention and Trade Show in Birmingham.
Alred is the daughter of Greg and Jina Alred of Hartselle. She is a student at Auburn University majoring in agriculture education, with the ultimate goal of becoming an ag teacher.
Her passion for youth and agriculture will make her a perfect fit for this role.
Funded through the sale of Marshall and Jackson ryegrass, the Wax Company Scholarship is awarded each year to the youth of Alabama’s livestock industry that demonstrate outstanding academic and leadership qualities. The scholarship is gifted through the Alabama Cattlemen’s Foundation.
The beef industry is the second largest segment of Alabama’s farm economy representing a $2 billion industry with annual sales of cattle and calves exceeding $450 million. The Alabama Cattlemen’s Association, founded in 1944, is one of the nation’s largest state cattlemen’s associations with an annual membership of 12,000.
