Brewer winner in 11-inning game

Brewer and Priceville softball teams battled on even terms for 11 innings before the visiting Lady Patriots scored a pair of runs in the top of the 11th and went on to win by a score of 7-5 on April 16.

Priceville grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first inning, Brewer tied the game at 2-all in the second and went up 5-2 in the third. Priceville added two runs in the fifth and tied the game at 7-all in the bottom of the seventh. The game went three more innings in overtime before Brewer tacked on two runs in the top of the 11th inning. Both runs were scored on passed balls.

Hitting fell in Priceville’s favor as the Lady Bulldogs collected 14 hits to Brewer’s 12.

However, Priceville’s pitchers allowed seven bases on balls while Brewer’s pitchers were tagged with only one walk.

Leading Brewer at the plate was Ashley McMinemon. Alyson Thomas and Morgan Wilson each had a pair of singles and Morgan Childers, Breanna Tillman, Alex Kirby, Kayla Roberts and Meagan Malone each singled. Alison Varner paced Priceville’s hitting attack with a double and three singles. Amber Johnson had two doubles and a single, McKenzie Parker added three singled, Brittany Marks each had a pair of singles, Hannah Wheeler and Abby St. John each singled.

Wilson was credited with the win. She pitched 11 innings, allowing five runs on 12 hits while striking out eight and walking one batter.

Madison Beddingfield was tagged with the loss, allowing two runs on eight hits in seven and two-third innings. She relieved Erin Payne in the third. Payne allowed five runs on four hits while striking out two and walking six batters.
