Tigers take second in Hoover tourney

Spanish Fort scored a run on an error in the top of the seventh inning, as Hartselle fell to the Toros 5-4 in the championship game of the Baptist Health Center Buccaneer Spring Break Classic at Hoover High School.

After giving up the run, Hartselle had a chance to tie or win the game, after Brett Blackwood and Easton Chenault reached on a hit and an error respectively. However, the Spanish Fort reliever retired the next three batters to end the threat.

Blackwood led the Tiger attack with a 3-for-4 effort with a double, a run scored and an RBI. Tyler Phillips added a pair of its with a double, an RBI and a run.Colton Ord and Chenault scored the other two runs.

The Tigers behind 4-0 through the first five and a half innings, but Hartselle rallied with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Deacon Aldridge took the loss, pitching the final hit and allowing an unearned run on one hit.

Starter Colton Ord and reliever Jake Whitt pitched three innings apiece and each recorded two strikeouts.

Hartselle 9, Cullman 2

Hartselle advanced to the championship game by taking advantage of nine hits and six walks.

Brett Blackwood hit a three-run home run in the third inning that gave Hartselle the lead for good.

Chris Brown, Colton Ord and Blackwood each went 2-for-4 on the afternoon. Brown had two RBIs and scored once. Daniel Conley also tripled in the win.

Jackson Smith got the win, allowing two earned runs on two hits and four walks with a pair of strikeouts in four innings.

Dakota Fowler pitched three scoreless innings to close out the win.
