Tigers win in 5 of 6 games

Hartselle Tigers claimed five wins in six games they played last week.

Their wins came against Russellville, 8-7; Buckhorn, 10-0; Madison Academy, 14-7; Grissom, 13-4; and Huntsville, 12-4.

Their only loss was at home against Russellville, 7-5, on March 13. In that game, the Tigers were out-hit 14-11.

Brett Blackwood paced the Tigers at the plate with four hits, two RBIs and a run scored. AJ Owens had a pair of hits and a run scored and Tanner Oakes, Chris Brown, Tyler Phillips, Zane Hamlett and Blake Slayton each had a hit.

Dakota Fowler was the losing pitcher. He gave up seven runs on 14 hits while striking out five and walking two batters.

The Tigers edged Russellville, 8-7, in the second game of a doubleheader on March 13.

Easton Chenault and Chris Brown each had two hits for Hartselle. Deacon Aldridge, Brett Blackwood, Colton Ord, Hamlett and Oakes each had a hit.

Tillman Landers was the winning pitcher. He worked three innings, allowing six runs on six hits while striking out two. Brady Wallace and Levi Tapscott pitched in relief.

The Tigers shut out Buckhorn 10-0 in the first of two games played at home on March 14.

Hartselle collected 15 hits while their opponent could muster only one.

Easton Chenault and Colton Ord each had three hits for the Tigers. Brett Blackwood, Brown and Slayton each had a pair of hits and Daniel Conley, Aaron Lamb and Tanner Oakes each had a hit.

Levi Tapscott was credited with the six-inning shutout. He allowed no runs on one hit while striking our five and walking two.

In the second game of the doubleheader, the Tigers defeated Madison Academy, 17-0 on the strength of a 14-hit attack.

Brett Blackwood led the Tigers at the plate with four hits, three RBIs and two runs scored. Daniel Conley, Oakes and J. Robinson each had a pair of hits and Ord, Chenault, Brown and Owens each had a hit.

Griffen Steelman was credited with the win. He pitched five innings, allowing five runs on five hits while giving up three bases on balls. Jake Shelton pitched in relief, allowing two runs on one hit.

The Tigers picked up a 13-4 win against Grissom in the first of two games played on the road Sat., March 16.

Hartselle out-hit Grissom 17-5.

Blackwood paced the win at the plate with four hits, two RBIs and two runs scored. Brown had three hits and two RBIs, Chenault, Daniel Conley and Slayton each had two hits and Ord, Phillips, Lamb and Oakes each had a hit.

Landers was the winning pitcher, allowing no runs on one hit while striking out six and walking two in five innings. Jackson Smith pitched two innings in relief, allowing four hits, four runs and four walks.

Hartselle defeated Huntsville 12-4 in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader.

Lamb had three hits and scored two runs, Brett Blackwood had two hits and four RBIs, Ord, Brown, Phillips and Slayton each had a pair of hits and Chenault, Daniel Conley and Oakes each had a hit.

Jake Whitt was the winning pitcher in relief, allowing one run on five hits while walking three batters. Ord pitched one inning and allowed two runs on three hits while walking three.
