Falkville FBC to sponsor community egg hunt

First Baptist Church Falkville will have a communitywide Easter egg hunt Sat., March 30. The hunt will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., for ages preschool through sixth grade.

Strawberry punch

2 to 3 c. strawberry soda

2 to 3 c. vanilla ice cream

Blend soda and ice cream and stir until ice cream is melted.

History lesson: 16 billion jelly beans are made for Easter.

Easter lunch: Place jelly beans in miniature baskets at each plate on your serving table. Make bunny place cards for each guest. Fill a basket with Easter eggs and place in the center of the table.

Black-eyed peas

1 – 10 ounce package of frozen black-eyed peas

2 tablespoons margarine

1 can Italian tomatoes, with liquid.

Cook peas as directed on package and drain. Add tomatoes and a little salt and pepper.

Molded vegetable relish salad

1 package lemon or lime flavored gelatin

3/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup boiling water

3/4 cup cold water

2 tablespoons vinegar

1/2 cup finely chopped cabbage

1/2 cup grated carrots

Dissolve gelatin and salt in boiling water and add cold water, vinegar, cabbage and carrots. Pour into 3 or 4 cup mold. I won a cook-off for this recipe.

Cooking tip: If you have leftover rice, turn it into pudding. Make one package vanilla instant pudding. Mix according to the package and add rice. Stir until well blended.

Looking back at prices of food listed in grocery store ad in 1993: 1 pint strawberries, $.88, Fla. oranges, $ .99, for a four pound bag of oranges, $1.44, Scott paper towels, $.57 a roll, canned peaches, $.88, ground turkey, $.79 a pound, and Tropicana Orange juice, $1.49 for 84 ounces.
