Traffic stop nets drug arrest

A traffic stop on U.S. 231 in Morgan City resulted in a drug arrest Friday night.

Sheriff Ana Franklin said that Morgan County Sheriff’s Deputies stopped a vehicle on Hwy 231 in Morgan City on Friday for several traffic violations.

Deputies spoke with the driver, Nicholas Maddox, 23, and noticed that he was very nervous. Deputies obtained consent to search the vehicle and then located several baggies and glass pipes that can be used for smoking methamphetamine.

One of the baggies contained “ice,” which is a pure form of methamphetamine. Deputies also discovered a used syringe. The Morgan County Drug Task force responded and spoke with the driver.

Drug agents arrested Maddox and charged him with unlawful possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Morgan County Drug Task Force Agents and patrol deputies have made seven meth related arrests in the last week. A marijuana grow operation was also taken down resulting in one arrest.
