The Hartselle Board of Education is considering whether to dip into reserves to pay the additional $55,000 to finish a $2.2 million field house at the Hartselle High School.

The change order stems from the board’s decision to include softball locker rooms in the facility alongside locker rooms for baseball and football. The decision came after some community members raised Title IX concerns that softball wasn’t treated equally as its similar sport, baseball.

Board members got into a heated debate about the finances for the new school during a work session Thursday night at the central office.

The board will decide on the issue Monday at 6 p.m. at Hartselle Junior High School during its regular meeting.
