Danville boys to host area tournament

Danville defeated Vinemont 58-50 at home Tuesday night to clinch the Class 3A, Area 13 regular season championship.

The Hawks, 5-1 in area play, will host the area tournament on Feb. 8 and will face off against Good Hope in the first round.

The Eagles jumped out to a 17-9 lead at the end of first quarter before the Hawks rallied to take a 27-26 lead by halftime.

From there, it was a close game the rest of the way, as Vinemont reclaimed a 41-40 by the end of the third quarter. But the Hawks took the lead and pulled away down the stretch.

Justin Morgan led the Hawks with 16 points followed by Alan Cordova with 12 points and Patrick Doherty with 11 points. Kyle Alexander finished with six points while Andres Cordova, Justin Tomlinson and Tyler Jolly each added four points. Slater Robinson added a free throw.

Vinemont was led by Duncan Hopper with 19 and Riley Foust with 13.

The Hawks will not play again until Fri., Jan. 25, at 8 p.m. when the second-seeded Hawks will face off against the winner of No. 3 Priceville vs. No. 6 Brewer.
