Inmates escape from work detail

Two Morgan County Jail inmates remained at large Sunday night after walking off a work detail earlier in the day.

Deputies were seeking the whereabouts of Johnny Wayne Johnson, 28, of Cullman and Steven Carl Mears, 24, of Decatur, according to Morgan County Sheriff Ana Franklin.

Johnson is described as a white male, 5-foot-11 185 pounds with brown hair and green eyes. He has a tattoo above his left eye and one across his throat. Mears is a white male, 5-foot-9 180 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. Both are believed to have been picked up by an unknown female driving a white sedan.

Johnson was in jail on charges of possession and manufacturing of a controlled substance. Mears was facing a probation violation charge.

Warrants have been issued for both inmates on additional charges of felony escape. If anyone has any information concerning these suspects, please contact the Morgan County Sheriff’s office at 256-560-6196 or 256-301-1174.
