Special election set for house seat

A special election will be conducted on Feb. 12, 2013, to fill the District 11 House seat vacated by Rep. Jeremy Oden (R-Eva).

Oden was appointed by Governor Robert Bentley to fill a vacated associate commissioner’s seat on the Alabama Public Service Commission, Effective Dec. 1.

District 11 covers portions of Morgan, Cullman and Blount counties.

Qualifying with both major political parties will remain open until Dec.19. Third party and independent candidates will have until Dec. 21 to file papers with the Secretary of State.

In the event one or both parties have more than one candidate, Feb. 12 will be the date for a primary election. A general runoff election, if necessary, will be held on March 26. Otherwise, that will be the date of a special general election. If both primaries and runoffs are necessary, the special general election will be held on May 7.
