Danville knocks off top 5 team

The Danville Hawks split a pair of area games last week, including a dramatic 37-35 win over No. 5 Hanceville.

Trailing by one at halftime, Danville kept the defensive game close until they were able to take the lead in the second half.

For the Hawks, Patrick Doherty and Kyle Alexander led the way with 10 each while Justin Morgan finished with nine and Slater Robinson had eight.

Hanceville was led by Brontae Harris and Chris Smith with 11 each.

Earlier in the week, the Hawks (7-4) fell to Vinemont 69-44. The Hawks only trailed 28-23 at halftime, but Vinemont put the game away in the second half, thanks in part to Lance Stanley’s 28-point output.

Patrick Doherty led Danville with 15 followed by Justin Morgan with 10, Slater Robinson with 7, Kyle Alexander with 6 and Justin Tomlinson, Tyler Fields and Jason Haynes, all with 2 each.
